Many of us have changed the way we look at taking our summer vacations over the past few years. With the amount of information that is available to travelers on the Internet more of us are booking our vacations directly with the resort that we would like to stay at or alternatively we are booking vacations which are based on touring around a country. Travelers who choose to do this have a wealth of information at their fingertips on the Internet including travel maps, resort information and resort reviews from other traveler, so it is no wonder that people are taking their vacations into their own hands and seeing the world the way they want to. One country that lends itself to being explored by the intrepid traveler is Australia. So what has Australia got to offer the traveler who likes a sense of adventure?

Australia is a huge country and is in fact the sixth largest country on the planet but much of Australia is uninhabited due to the inhospitable outback. When you consider that The United Kingdom has a population of 60 million people and would fit into Australia over times whereas the population of Australia is somewhere around 20 million people you can begin to see how scarcely populated the country is. You are never too far away from peace and quiet in Australia.

Australia has some of the most spectacular beaches in the world and of course is home to the largest living organism on the planet, the Great Barrier Reef. When you visit Australia the Great Barrier Reef is one of the destinations that you should have on your must see list. You can take a trip from one of the many towns on the Gold Coast and sail out and explore this magnificent site for the day. The memories of you Great Barrier Reef tour will live with you for a long time.

Australia is home to some fantastically cosmopolitan cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. Even though Australia is scarcely populated you would not think it when you visit these cities as they are as vibrant and colorful as any major city in the world. The wonderful nature of the Australians make these cities both alive with noise and revelry as well as being laid back and relaxed. There is plenty to see and do in both cities but Sydney is more of a tourist trap with sites such as the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and of course the famous Bondi Beach attracting the most visitors.

The Australian outback id s well worth a visit if you like to explore the more natural places whilst on your vacation. The outback is literally millions of square kilometers of untouched scrub land and desert that although bare of population is still a fascinating journey to make. Getting to understand how the indigenous Aborigine population make a life for themselves in this harsh environment is part of the fascination when exploring the outback.

Australia has some unique wildlife to study whilst there, from the kangaroo's of the outback, the koala's and crocodiles of the rain forests and the wonderful marine life of the coast including sharks, rays and millions of varieties of fish. As well as the more cuddly side of nature Australia is home to some of the most poisonous snakes and spiders on the planet, but don't let that put you off visiting.

Another advantage to Australia is that the people there are exceptionally friendly. They have a laid back, friendly attitude and they do tend to be really sociable too. So you will really be able to relax and enjoy your stay whilst you are there. In many countries there can be a worry about how the locals will take to tourists. The fact that Australians are so friendly helps to take away that worry and you can then focus on simply relaxing and enjoying your holiday.

On the whole the Australians are a wonderful race of people to get to know. The light hearted and relaxed way that they go about their everyday business is both refreshing and appealing to many people this is why so many people want to go and live in Australia. Ensure that you book your vacation for the correct time of year as Australia is in the southern hemisphere and whilst it may be summer for you at home you will find that it is mid-winter in Australia. So if you are looking for a fun, relaxing and interesting vacation this year why not look at booking to go to Australia.
